How do prosecutors use psychology of manipulation?
If you witnessed a shooting and the cops asked you to describe what you witnessed...you would you describe what you saw, right?
Of course! It is carmon sense. Why would't you? You are a law abiding citizen and it’s is the right thing to do.
If you were asked to come to a trial to repeat what you saw...Would your recollection of events be t h esame?
Is it possible for your memory imperceptbly be changed to have you describe a different set of events.. without you realizing it? Would you consider yourself too smart and too grounded in the truth for this to occur? Would you consider your memory sharp? If you saw a shooting would you remember the details?
Most people would say, they would remember. But as we see in Keith’s case, case, we noticed some people are influenced by the enviomment and other everyday conversations. When a person we feel is above scrutiny, such as a prosecutor, or his henchmen decides to use crafty psychology with a specific purpose of subtly switching our recollection of details...the results may be eye opering.
Keith says:
"In 1998, I was just a 19 year old teenager who was encountered by a group of criminal gang members. After multiple attempts to avoid and diffuse the situation, I was assaulted by one of the members, and completely surrounded him out, numbered by the rest. It wasn’t until later finding out these were criminals but at the time I was definitely still worried and scared enough to know my safety, possibly even life were at risk. Fortunately, I was able to withdrw my firearm before being knocked to the ground and was able to stop this attack from going further. Although this was the last situation I desired to find myself in, I unitimately had placed faith in the Judicial system and felt that the simple "truth" of my self-defense, would be enough to vindicate me. Unfortunately, that was not my case and I was wrongly convicted.
Things were a blur in my mind as things happen as I was under attack and was only 19. The event seemed to have an even higher stress level than I knew how to cope with at the time.
A few weeks incarcerated, I was able to read what other people described they witnessed to police the night of the shooting. I was reading that most of the eye witnesses described the events in the same way to varying degrees. A White male was surrounded by a gang of Mexicans, who were throwing gang signs assaulted the white male who appeared to be backing up as if he didn't want any trouble, and a sthe white male was stumbling backwardshefired shots at the gang who was charging at him. I felt somewhat confident that even know I was not proud for things to turn out the way they had, it gave me hope hearing what happened from the perspective of the witnesses could help others understand that I was truly scared and defending myself. Ironically, somehting my teenage brain couldh't fathom at the time. these 5 eye witnesses who I thought would stay true to what they originally said, had completely changed what they saw between the altercation. Furthermore, when asked about their previous statements to law enforcement questioned the change nearly all said they could not recall how they described it in their initial version of events to the cops the night of the incident. A few even became argumentative as if presented with a lie regardless of their signatue was on their statements, in black and white and it was dated only hours after witnessing the event first hand. Prior to any outside influence or conversation

I was confused as to why anyone with no skin in the game - would they turn on me? This is what motivated me to spend thousands of hours reading and studying psychology, the influence of persuasion, eventually obtaining a bachelors degree and behavior science I learned the specifics of human behavior, and how it can be altered. Sometimes our memory is not as great as we look back on them to be. Anyone who tries to look back on childhood memories can attest to that. Depending on the type of influence, your memory can be altered and subtle in specific ways. Of course, our memory is almost always more accurate the moment, after witnessing and encountering something, then it will be months down the road, where our own shades and thoughts begin to mold or recollections.''
